Job Application - Short Films
Director
I'm applying for the role of director in this unit as I believe I have the capability to oversee a project requiring creative input. For example, with my own short film idea, I have the entire film envisioned including the dialogue, the types of shots, the actors, the characters, the lighting etc. I believe as a director, you need to be able to envision your film if you have any hope of bringing it to life.
I am a confident person who has no issue in taking control of a situation, when it comes to directing, you can't accept anything less than the best from your crew and actors, but for them to know this, you need to be able to communicate with them. My acting background allows me to look at the filming process from two perspectives, this would allow me to give the actors the direction I know that I as an actor, would benefit from. I adore film and my passion gives me the drive to deliver a film I would be proud to showcase to an audience.
If my film is picked, I would like to take control of it creatively as a director, I have a specific vision which I believe can only be conveyed through my direction. I also believe being a good director involves listening to your crew and communicating with them, every aspect of the filming process is extremely important, so maintaining clear and constant communication with your team is vital. I believe I am capable of doing this. One weak link can break the chain, so it's important everyone is aware of what it is that needs doing and when.
The only way I'm going to get to where I want to be in this industry is by taking on every opportunity I can get, and not everyone gets the opportunity to direct a film that could possibly aid towards furthering myself and my team's future careers. I respect this industry and the roles within, directing is not an easy task, but it's certainly rewarding in many ways and the experience would serve me well further down the line.
Thank you for your consideration,
Josh.
